Ahmedabad served as the capital of Gujarat from 1960 to 1970. Located on the banks of the Sabarmati River, the city of Ahmedabad built its fortune on the thriving textile industry, which earned it the nickname ‘Manchester of the East’. Ahmedabad became the first city in India to be inscribed in UNESCO’s World Heritage City list of 2017. It is endowed with rich architectural heritage and also enjoys a thriving cultural tradition, being the center of Gujarati cultural activities. The city of Ahmedabad is now the 7 th largest metropolis in India and the largest in the state of Gujarat. The high speed rail line connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad will be the first one in our country. Ahmedabad houses renowned institutions like PRL, IIM , NID, ATIRA, CEPT and is a major industrial and financial city. It has also been selected as one of the 100 Indian cities to be developed as a Smart City.

ABOUT GANDHINAGAR

Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat is the greenest city of India. It is located approximately 23 km north of Ahmedabad, on the west bank of the Sabarmati River. It presents a spacious, well organized look of an architecturally integrated city. The city offers a large recreational area along the river giving the city a Garden city atmosphere.
